Nice to see good writing from someone capable of critical thought. That has done as much to check my cynicism as the actual content of your most recent post.
I have been fighting this mentality for what seems like my whole life. The desire to be cool/trendy/whatever for the nebulousness of "not giving a shit". It just sucks. Being cynical is really, truly not cool and honestly is probably a big reason I'm mildly depressed, because I always thought it was cool.
A point that sticks in my head from Jonathan Haidt (Righteous Mind) that many people are missing nowadays is the whole idea of duty. The left has completely abandoned the idea of doing things for the sake of duty, and if they don't figure their shit out and make it a foundation of their platforms, they're fucked. I run a small business and one of the reasons I do is because I always have the need to make the buck stop with me when I was on a team. Even if others fucked up a job, I don't like to pass the blame. I just want to help fix things. Corporate/Political mentality is too often trying to figure out who to blame and less about just fixing the fucking problem. And it's shitty.
I really wonder in 500 years how they will study our current day society in classrooms.
