It's good to see someone else acknowledge it's luck all the way down. Few get it, but there are a few: Galen Strawson, Robert Sapolsky, Sam Harris, Raoul Martinez, myself...
Future generations, if we manage to avoid complete extinctions, will look back to our present times and find the belief in human free agency, self-made-manness and meritocracy as ludicrous and pernicious notions as smoking tobacco or handling mobile phones to 13-year old children. It's rather depressing how far most if not all of our current political leaders are from even grasping the ideas you so cogently present here let alone abiding by them. This is an insightful and necessary piece. Thank you and kudos to you.
In the fullness of time, our failure to comprehend basic causality will be looked back on the way we now look back at medieval people who attributed disease to evil spirits and curses.
This reads and plays almost like a platform for a new sort of politician that is brave enough to tell the truth to their base and draw cross aisle support. Bravo, Jamie. Really thoughtful piece.

Happy to be seen. It can indeed feel lonely at times.
